Something positive

Sometimes it seems like everything in the news is sad and depressing. I don’t watch the evening TV news for this reason. I feel that the less negativity I expose myself to, the better. Do you feel the same way?

There are a lot of positive things in the world. Do you notice them? We must stay positive and optimistic because if not, we get dragged down by all the negativity in the world. It can be challenging to put things in perspective but it must be done. We must deeply value every day we have on this Earth.

The organization I’m working on starting, called Radiate Inc., is an example of a something positive in the world. I would love if you would follow along on my journey to have a positive impact on the world. What is Radiate? Radiate is an energy and sustainability non-profit based in the U.S. and operating in low-income countries. Radiate partners with and empowers members of local communities, providing resources to help achieve mutually agreed upon goals. Radiate’s first area of operation is Les Cayes, Haiti where we are lucky to have some existing friends and partners. There we will be creating a financially sustainable improved cook stove business. This is just the first step. If you would like to follow along, please check our blog out here and we promise our website will be up soon!

you are right about the news media bias for entertainment, rather than proper info and education. Wrote about news media’s failure to advance the #sustainability agenda some while back. Have a look and tell me what you think: http://sustainability-leaders.com/2012/12/17/journalists-watchdog-sustainability/

    • Well said. I was thinking of this subject this morning in relation to the situation in Missouri. I had an idea…does mainstream media try purposely to make us feel down so that we’ll consume more? I’m sure it’s true.

That’s part of it, yes. If you think about it, there is always one crisis chased by another. Intl or national conflicts are pushed to front page, then disaper, replaced by the next misery. Switching off and not reading mainstream news is the only way to make sure you aren’t turning into a crisis junkie. Lucky us there are so many alternatives out there well worth reading!
